LMC maintains 16 miles of privately-owned mixed-use trails and parks offered for public use.

We also manage one of the nation’s largest urban natural bouldering park and The Guild-Hardy Trail, enjoyed by 70,000 Chattanoogans each year.

We cultivate experiences that connect people with the land we protect.

We believe in equitable and inclusive access to recreation.

Our 16 miles of trails — designed to uplift the human experience — create connection, joy and meaning.

Come visit us at Rockmont Park where you can access our boulders, trails, gardens and parks. The River-to-Clouds Route starts here, offering 34 miles of mountain trails for hikers, bikers, runners and walkers.

We believe in community-centered conservation.

Boulders On Old Wauhatchie Pike

Years ago, LMC’s President and CEO Dr. Robyn Carlton was walking through the overgrown trails and boulders at Rockmont Park near St. Elmo. She noticed white dusty streaks and handprints on many of the boulders. Puzzled, she asked a friend from the Access Fund: why is there white chalk on all these boulders?

Folks are climbing here, he said. The chalk helps their grip.

LMC faced a decision: lock up the park or give people access. “So, we uncovered the boulders,” Robyn remembers. “We built landing pads, walls and trails. We began co-mingling with the climbing community.”

In 2017, LMC opened the South’s first public natural urban bouldering park. The Boulders on Old Wauhatchie, located within Rockmont Park, boasts 27 natural boulders offering more than 100 routes and spread across 50 acres of community-accessible, family-friendly land, all stewarded by interns from The Howard School

We’ve produced a Bouldering Guide for regional climbers.

The boulders are also home to one of the most unique climbing competitions in the region.
